Rymes propane (based in Concord, NH)refuses to deliver home-heating fuel even when their customer has a credit balance on their account.

Their advertised policy is COD customers must be home to present driver with payment, or prepay before their delivery date. (Other options include pre-buying a years worth of fuel, or applying for a line of credit of which many people will not qualify). In lieu of taking 2 days off per month to meet a driver, we have a check mailed to the office every month as a prepayment.

With a $100 credit on our account, their driver (under instructions from the office) came to the home with a fuel truck, and instead of putting $100 worth of fuel in the tank, left a note on the door stating there was not enough money. (The company will not deliver less than 100 gallons at a time - Ironcially we only have a 100 gallon tank!)

When I advised them we were in danger of running out of heating fuel and needed them to use my credit balance, they stated there would be an $85 charge to come out on an off-day, and would still require payment to FILL the tank. They proceeded to apologize that we'd run out of heat and would have to stay with family and friends and let our pipes freeze because the money of ours they are holding hostage isn't enough to put that much fuel in our tank, even as the driver parks his full truck in front of the tank to fill out a piece of paper to say 'tough luck till next week'.

Avoid this company at all costs, they are full of mis-information, rude and less than courteous representatives and an incompetent management team that could care less about the people of central and northern New England.

Cases have been filed with NH Attorney General and Better Business Bureau.

Reason of review: Poor customer service.

Location: Livingston, New Jersey

Have you been told about a budget plan, since you are sending a check to them every month?

Folks, I appreciate being pissed at a business but if you're going post negative attacks about a business PLEASE include a fact or two. Don't just rant. That wastes people's time.

Thanks for everyone's feedback.... It's almost humorous to see comments still coming in, 18 months later.

There's clearly no surprise why Rhymes scores a big fat F on the Better Business Bureau's rating and why they (Rhymes) won't/CAN'T become a BBB member business.

I've since left the Lakes Region, but continue to share my experience about Rhyme's with other people in the region. I'm glad to see you've all found accommodating alternatives in light of the limited service in that area!

I have been doing business with Rhymes since 2005 and have had nothing but good experiences in doing business with them.

I wholeheartedly agree with all the postings above. I was told that they would not deliver less than 250 gallons to me even though I would pay $600 cash. I was told too bad and that they were doing me a favor. They said unless I came up with $850 cash they would not deliver. I told them no, I was asked if I had contacted my local charities for financial help.

Went 4 days without heat (the temps were -5), hot water or cooking. Irving Propane is my new provider

AVOID this company at ALL COSTS...you will be sorry.

With them for year #2 and disappointed with service of furnace and now trying to get back money from overpaying on prebuy 2009/10. Wish me luck trying to get it back - I was told four to 6 weeks because owner has to see paperwork.

I agree - pay a little more and get GOOD service. Would not recommend.

The dishonest methods used by their Concord area office should be investigated. Lies lies and more lies.

Charlie is the worst to deal with -ever. This guy is the master of BS and cannot be trusted.

I can speak from direct and recent experience this company is very poorly managed. And has little experience in regards to current NH law.

The owner himself is quite the loose canon.. The employees that answer phones in the concord office are considerably less than honest.

If you are an honest person who would typically handle yourself in a professional manner should disagreements arise then steer clear of this company by all means. This particular company does not act in a similar fashion. Even if you need to pay a slightly higher prices to another company it will be well worth it in the end.

The owner has no problem screaming and yelling at customers over the phone. He need and expects submission from his customers.

Should he not receive that he quickly looses his self control and will issue insults and threats. They now may soon have additional pending litigation.

I agree this company SUCKS. We are in current litigation w/ them and while the case is waiting to be heard, they refuse to deliver to us even w/cash payment(and by state law, no other company can either). There are several complaints against them at BBB, AG office, Consumer Protection and EPA.

I would like to know what happened with your litigation as they are treating us this way as well.
